Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51 million watchers across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
