Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect learning which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
